We are delighted to be supporting the third production of Action! Theater in our space! Action! Theaer and director Tiger Reel continue to challenge the accepted and expected and we are sure that R.U.R will not disappoint.

R.U.R. stands for Rossum's Universal Robots. Written in 1920 - R.U.R. garnered worldwide acclaim for its author and introduced the word "Robot" to the English language. Mass-produced, efficient and servile labor, Capek's robots remember everything, but lack creative thought, and the Utopian life they provide ultimately lacks meaning. When the robots revolt, killing all but one of their masters, they must attempt to learn the secret of procreation.

Working from a new adaptation by Action! Theatre Company Artistic Director, Tiger Reel, this production will highlight Capek's themes of technology's effect on society, gender and class roles and will wrestle with the question: "Are we as a race worth saving?"

As the genesis of the "Robot Revolution" scenario, R.U.R. prefigures such greats of the genre like "The Terminator", "Blade Runner", "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the re-imagined "Battlestar Galactica."

Inspiration

After years of investigating and ruminating on the concept of Home, we recently came across an unsent letter from Sulerzhitsky to Stanislavski of December 1915 in which he reflects on their efforts with the First Studio :

“I particularly liked the nature of the land you bought at Eupatoria for the Studio, desert-like and arid, where we would have had to work hard to construct a common home."

This link back to the tradition of Russian acting practice supports and inspires our recent decision to change a portion of our name and rewrite our mission statement. We have never felt completely comfortable with the association attached to being a Center, but we are more than a School and not at all an Institution.

We aim in fact to be a home.

And so we are pleased to announce our decision to rename ourselves [via]Corpora Performance Research and Development House!
