There are as many ways to performance and performer training as there are performers. What is essential is the Perspective of Joy and Ease with which a performer approaches each moment of work. Through full-bodied play we will discover the pathways to engaged and engaging performance.

After three months of teaching and researching in Leeds, England, Bryan Brown returns to [via]Corpora with his particular physical approach to actor training and performance development. This new workshop will investigate both areas by focusing 1/3 of the day on the physical, vocal and rhythmic training that allows for the offering of self in spontaneous and imaginative moments and 2/3 of the day applying the experiences of the training to the development of individual Propositions.

A Proposition is an active sketch, a short structured sequence of movements and sound.

Participants should come with a proposition. If you do not have a proposition, we can still work as long as you are willing to improvise and work towards one in front of the group.
(Propositions can consist of text, song, object(s), costume. Keep it simple. The details and subtlety are what we will be focusing on.)

BRYAN BROWN has taught and studied extensively in New York City, Europe, and Los Angeles. He is co-creator of Artel and [via]Corpora, Performance Research and Development House. Deeply influenced by American Experimental theater and dance practitioners, Bryan has spent the last two years investigating the contemporary theater practices of Eastern European and Russian ensembles primarily through his relations with the Grotowski Institute and the Song of the Goat Theatre. Recently he was Artist-in-Residence at Hooyang Performing Arts Centre, South Korea. Besides consistent teaching in Los Angeles at [via]Corpora, Bryan has led workshops in Poland, New Orleans and NY. Currently, he teaches Performance Technique at the University of Leeds where he is a Postgraduate Research student.
